UPPINGHAM were knocked out of the John Wilcox Cup by Peterborough on Sunday.
Town, who were Rutland’s only representatives in the Rutland League’s 50-over cup competition, were well beaten by a stong city side who batted first and scored 190 runs for seven wickets.
Spin bowler Ben Collins bowled 10 overs for just 5 runs while Danny Dumford took four wickets from his 10 over spell as Uppingham kept the run rate down.
In reply Uppingham openers Jamie Dumford, who top scored with 23, and Martin Bennett (6) got town off to a good start, but then both lost their wickets with the score on 37.
Mark Cox and Callum O’berg both added 17 runs batting against good spin bowling from Peterborough’s R Sayers who took one wicket from a mean seven over spell that went for just seven runs.
Medium pacer Bashir Hussain claimed three wickets for 13 off 10 overs and although Jake Norton (14), Max Collins (22) and Alex Ashwin (14) batted well in the lower order, Uppingham were bowled out for 137.
Peterborough were worthy winners using six bowlers, all taking wickets.
