Click here to watch James' proposal
LOVE was in the air at the weekend when a man went down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend on a festival stage.
Stamford man James Brown shocked Kelly Riddle by asking her to marry him before a packed crowd at the Riverside.
Luckily the fashion photographer's romantic gesture was music to Kelly's ears as she said yes – much to the delight of the audience on The Meadows.
James had hoped to pop the question on Kelly's birthday last Wednesday but when the ring did not arrive he opted for a more memorable proposal.
He said: "It is something different and is something to remember.
"I went back stage and spoke to a couple of people who asked Kelly to come on stage. She didn't have a clue.
"She has made me the happiest man on the planet."
Kelly, a recruitment consultant, said: "I'm really happy now I'm over the shock. It took me all day on Sunday to get over it. I was such a state on the stage."
The couple have enjoyed a whirlwind romance since meeting up in February after not seeing each other for 10 years.
James and Kelly, both 27, met while pupils at the Robert Manning College, in Bourne.
The couple ran into each other in Central Nightclub, Stamford, and have only spent four days apart since then.
James, a former press photographer with the Mercury's sister paper, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, said: "I fell in love with her the first day I met her. I met Kelly when I was 13."
But the shocks are not over for Kelly as James says the wedding date is also going to be a surprise – but has promised to give her some notice.
