Preview: Stamford Festival returns for its 34th colourful year this weekend.
The organising committee has been working hard alongside the Stamford Kiwanis and Lions, and the Royal British Legion to make sure Stamford has something to shout about over the next week.
The fun begins with the Stamford Festival Golf Tournament, organised by Duncan & Toplis, which is being held at Burghley Park on Friday, June 20.
Last year they raised just over £2,750 which was donated to local charities including Home-Start and The Mayor’s Charity.
The following day, Saturday, June 21, celebrations continue with the parade of floats organised by the Stamford Kiwanis.
As well as the parade there will be plenty to do and see on the Recreation Ground. including entertainment in the arena, a Spitfire flypast, a Bomb Disposal display from 5131 Squadron and a field catering display from No. 3 Mobile Catering Squadron.
Stamford Town Hall will be open to the public as usual during parade day, giving people the chance to delve into the town’s history.
There will also be a performance by the National Methodist Youth Brass Band at Barn Hill Methodist Church, and All Saints’ Church tower will be open for people to go up.
On Sunday, June 22, the Lions invite you to join them for their annual fun day on the Rec starting at 10am.
Attractions include Cyril the Squirrel and his racing terriers, demonstrations from the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, airsofting and a climbing wall.
The day will conclude with a churches together service at the old bowling green on the Rec.
Other events during the week include the Over 50s Entertainment Evening at The Theatre Lounge on Tuesday, June 24, the festival quiz in St Mary’s Vaults on Sunday, June 29, and the cribbage at Stamford AFC’s Kettering Road Ground that same day.
From heavy metal and folk to classical guitar and French dance, there is something to suit every taste.
