THERE’s a host of fireworks displays in the are over the weekend.
The annual firework display organised by The Lions Club of Rutland is on Saturday at Oakham Rugby Club.
The gates will be open from 6.30pm and the display starts at 7pm by firework company Hi-5 initially with a children’s display, then followed by a family display.
Tickets are £3.50 in advance, free for children under five years from Ford’s of Oakham in Church Street or Uppingham Sports and Books. Admission on the night is £4. Refreshments will be available.
A display in Morcott will raise money in memory of a Red Arrows pilot.
The White Horse Inn in the village is holding a display on Saturday. Admission is free but donations will be taken in aid of the Jon Egging Trust, which was set up in memory of Flt Lt Jon Egging, who died after the Red Arrow he was flying crashed in August.
Flt Lt Egging, 33, lived in the village with his wife Dr Emma Egging, who set up the trust to raise money to help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential through activities like flying.
The gates will be open from 6.30pm and the display starts at 7pm. There will also be hot and cold refreshments and a licensed bar.
Other displays include Cottesmore bonfire and fireworks display at Cottesmore Community Centre tomorrow from 6pm. Admission is £3 for adults, £1 for children and free for children under five. There will be fairground rides, hot dogs and a sparkler area.
Empingham Cricket and Social Club fireworks display is on tomorrow, 8pm, Advance tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for children under 16 or £4 and £3 on the gate. No unaccompanied children. Children under two years will be admitted free.
North Luffenham bonfire night will take place on Saturday at The Oval. The event will start at 6pm and there will be a collection and tombola to cover expenses. Hot and cold refreshments and sparklers will be on sale.
Firework displays further afield include Rainbows Hospice Festival of Fireworks at Leicester Racecourse on Saturday. The gates and fairground rides will be open from 5.30pm, children’s fireworks at 7pm, bonfire at 7.30pm and main display at 8.15pm. Advance tickets are £4.50, free for children under five years. Twinlakes’ unique themed Fight of the Dragons Firework Festival will be held on Saturday. The event is the finale to a full day of entertainment at Twinlakes, which runs from 10am to 9pm.
