CRICKETERS will be returning to a bygone era at a charity match at the weekend.
Hoteliers in Stamford will once again be taking part in the annual Victorian cricket match on The Meadows in Stamdord on Sunday.
Teams of men and women will be battling it out at the event, which is organised by the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, from 2.30pm.
The teams are gleaned from last year’s champions, The George Hotel, who will compete with The Garden Inn Hotel, The Crown Hotel and newcomers Jim’s Yard, who are expected to put on a great show.
Special rules apply and extra runs are awarded for getting the cricket ball into the river or mill stream so expect some exciting action.
Another highlight will be a flypast, weather permitting, of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Refreshments and teas are being provided by the competitors and will be sold by the Inner Wheel of Stamford Burghley. Real ale from The Ufford Ales Brewery and Pimms will quench the thirst of the crowd and competitors.
A raffle with amazing prizes is also on offer.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Fred Trueman Schools Cricket League and local charities supported by Rotary.
