Local artist, Brian Maunders, will hold a free exhibition of his work at the Victoria Hall in High Street, Oakham, from Monday, April 18 to Saturday, April 23, from 9am to 6pm, daily.

Brian trained at the Central School of Art and Design in London (under the tutelage of such distinguished artists as Mervyn Peake, Gertrude Hermes and Roderic Barrett). He later studied at the Royal Academy between 1966 and 1970.

His exhibition will feature drawings and paintings of Rutland landscapes. Brian says he finds great joy in the natural world and his inspiration comes from immersing himself totally in the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of a particular location – even, he says, if it happens to be raining. He calls it ‘capturing the moment’.

The exhibition will be officially launched at a private viewing opened by Dr Sarah Furness, the High Sheriff of Rutland, herself an admirer and collector of the artist’s work.

A percentage of all sales from the event will be donated to the High Sheriff’s charities – ‘For Rutland in Rutland’, ‘Warning Zone’, and ‘Hope’.

Brian will already be well known to many Rutlanders as an accomplished musician and as a volunteer regularly visiting local care homes to sing, play guitar and entertain residents.
