THIS weekend’s Love Pets Show is promising to be even bigger and better than last year when the event was held for the first time in Peterborough.
The 2011 extravaganza is at the Exec Indoor Arena at the East of England Showground, sited just off the A1.
Popular TV vet Marc Abraham will act as host and other celebrities attending include Karen Wild, dog trainer to the stars and canine behaviour specialist Jez Rose. Smokey, the cat with the loudest purr on the planet according to Guinness World Records, is a special guest as is singer Pippa Langhorne and her dog Buddy who impressed the judges and the audience of Britain’s Got Talent with their operatic duets. World-famous parrot Gizmo will also be there.
Animal lovers in general and people just potty about their pets will be able to visit a total of 55 species - meerkats, skunks, barn owls, reptiles, raccoons, rabbits, rats, tortoises, mini Shetland ponies, guinea pigs, cats, dogs and spiders among them. A ‘dragon’ will be on display and a petting zoo will allow children to get safely up close to lots of the creatures.
A great family day out will feature lots more than just pets, with advice from experts, trade stands selling everything imaginable in the pet world, to entertainment in the main arena. This will include demonstrations of general dog agility, ferret-racing and Siberian huskies. Various charities such as Wood Green Animal Shelter and Cats Protection will have stands.
Every visitor will receive a book of vouchers entitling them to money-off discounts and there will be plenty of choice for food and drink. Ten per cent of the admission takings will go to animal charities.
A host of competitions will feature prizes ranging from a pet-friendly holiday to an Italian pet bed, dog or cat food for a year to a hi-tech collar and toy hamper.
Sponsors of the event are Zoflora, Mars Petcare, The Kennel Club, Your Dog and Your Cat magazines, Welcome Cottages and Direct Line insurance. The event is organised by JP Events and Exhibitions, part of the Johnston Press newspaper group.
The show will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am and car parking is free.
Tickets on the gate are £18 for a family of two adults and three children, £10 for adults, £5 for senior citizens and students, £3 for children aged 5-16.
