Ragdale Hall Spa in Leicestershire countryside is perfect place to relax after stresses of Covid-19 pandemic
"Once you've been to Ragdale Hall, you'll struggle to find a spa that lives up to it."
That was the warning I issued to my friend, Becki, as we travelled through the Leicestershire countryside on the way for some much needed rest and recuperation. I would never turn down the opportunity for a spa day, which presents a rare chance to relax and escape from the chaos of my everyday life, but for Becki, it was something she had never had the chance to indulge in.
Having visited a couple of times before, Ragdale Hall Spa would always be my first choice for such an indulgent treat - but treats like these have been off the cards for a while.
Covid-19 closed the doors but now, customers are making the most of returning for the relaxation that was all too absent during the height of the pandemic. While the virus is still around, the spa has stringent covid policies to follow including that guests should wear face coverings when they're not in the spa or eating. No-one seemed overly bothered though and it is clearly going a long way to making sure people feel safe to return.
We arrived on a day when the spa was fully booked - and if you're planning a similar stay and have a date in mind, it is well worth getting it booked now.
Despite this, the spa never seemed overly busy and only once did we turn away from a thermal spa room that was a little too crowded, for fear we might end up perched on the lap of a stranger that we couldn't see in the steam!
Our first port of call, having changed into our fluffy white gowns, was Ragdale's rooftop infinity pool, which opened in 2017 and was perfect even on a cool day, to look out over the Autumn countryside while feeling toasty warm in the water. Truly magical.
A wander around the thermal spa followed before we hotfooted it for a treatment. For me, it was a lovely facial where my therapist offered lots of helpful advice on how to take better care of my skin, and for Becki, her first ever back, neck and shoulder massage which she said later was the highlight of her day and not nearly long enough!
A gorgeous lunch followed where we may have indulged in a few too many desserts from the buffet so afterwards, it was time to find a quiet place to snooze it off.
If you're lucky enough to be a repeat visitor to Ragdale, something new is sure to await. For me it was the plush new Twilight Bar, where we stopped for a gorgeous mocktail in an effort to drag our day out even further. We mused that for guests staying overnight, it's the perfect place to indulge in a cocktail or three with a delicious sounding drinks menu and friendly waiting staff.
Ragdale has also recently unveiled Heart and Soul Fitness, which includes two-fully refurbished studios and a gym, as well as a new-look welcome area. We poked our heads around the door but the state-of-the-art exercise machines weren't quite enough to tempt us away from the prospect of finding somewhere comfortable to laze.
It is the constant desire to improve that makes Ragdale so special and in recognition of this, it was recently crowned the Best Retreat Spa in the Good Spa Guide Awards 2021 and also won the Best Health Spa/Retreat in the reader-voted Health and Wellbeing Awards 2021. It is easy to see why and it certainly won't be long before I'm back again.
