Mary Ray celebrates 107th birthday with family at Chater House in Ketton
A resident at Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton marked her 107th birthday on Tuesday with a party with family.
Mary Ray was joined by her family for a celebration, including her two sons Christopher and Martin. Martin had travelled from his home in Germany especially to spend time with his mum.
Mary had been unwell in the days running up to her milestone birthday but still managed to blow out the candle on her cake and make a joke or two.
She puts her great age down to enjoying a bottle of Guinness every day - as it’s full of iron - and a whiskey now and then.
She had lots of cards and joked what a lovely lady the Queen is as she has remembered to send her a card every birthday for the last seven years.
Annabel Mitchell, the home’s activities coordinator, said that Mary had been a resident at Chater Lodge for two years and is the oldest resident.
She added: “Mary is a great example to us all as she always has a smile on her face , a tale to tell or a joke to crack. She always says she’s had a good life and can’t complain and is a joy to have with us here at Chater Lodge.”
