Conman targets 97-year-old woman in Deeping St James

An elderly woman was conned out of £300 by a man claiming she needed her roof repaired.

The 97-year-old was visited at home in Broadgate Lane, Deeping St James, on Friday last week by the man in his 20s.

She paid an £80 deposit but he then went into the house claiming to be looking for leaks. She later realised £220 was missing.

At around the same time, two men were seen parked up in an orangey brown coloured van with ladders further down the street.

Inspector Rachel Blackwell said: "Thankfully rogue trader incidents in our area are much reduced but I would remind elderly residents to be alert to cold callers claiming work needs to be done. They should always decline and seek advice."

Witnesses can call 101 quoting incident 267 of November 22.
