A trainee veterinary nurse is taking part in a charity parachute jump tin aid of an RSPCA centre.

Laura Wright, who joined Clear Ridge Veterinary Surgery in Stamford last month, will be raising money for RSPCA Derby, an independently run centre which relies entirely on donations to survive.

Laura, 23, said the centre was a cause very close to her heart. She has volunteered there for two years and has taken in four animals from it – three cats and a rabbit.

“This will be my first parachute jump – and hopefully not my last!” she said.

“The Derby centre is completely self-funded and doesn’t get any external funding, yet its running costs are more than £7,000 a week. It is really a good cause and any donation is welcome.

“Animals don’t get a say in the quality of life they have and are dependent on us doing the right things. Unfortunately not every animal finds a loving home and the RSPCA gives them a second chance in life and makes sure that they have somewhere to go and be cared for.”

Laura, who also has another rabbit and a dog, has been busy fundraising for the charity for two years and has organised several bake-sales and raffles. She is also walking dogs and creating her own range of animal accessories, including dog bandanas, to get more funds.

The parachute jump will take place in Nottingham on February 21. To support Laura’s endeavours, go to https://www.justgiving.com/Laura-kay/
