A SPORTS facilities action group is desperately searching for a new chairman and members.
Action for Stamford Sport and Leisure is holding a meeting tomorrow and is urging people to attend.
If the group fails to find support it is likely to fold.
Treasurer and acting chairman Gerry Evans, of Emlyns Street, Stamford, said: “I’m not the person to take it forward but I’ll be disappointed if the group didn’t go continue.
“I’m just hoping that we can find the people we are looking for.”
The group was founded in June 2007 by former Stamford town councillor Jane Peckett, who died last year.
Since then it has conducted surveys, printed a sports directory and held talks with South Kesteven District Council and landowners to discuss possible improvements in the town.
Mr Evans believes that despite continuing development in Stamford with projects such as the skatepark on The Recreation Ground, the town still had a need for a group to fight for better facilities.
One aim was to improve simwming facilities in the town. The group says the current Stamford Leisure Pool caters more for leisure rather than sporting activities such as lane swimming, water polo and galas. Mr Evans said he and the group had an ethos of “don’t complain, campaign”.
Anyone with a similar attitude who wants to express their views should attend the meeting at 10.30am at the Stamford Arts Centre.
