AN adventurer has arrived in Poland using manpower alone, just under a month after she set off from London.
Sarah Outen, 25, from Ashwell, has already kayaked across from England to France, and pedalled through Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic and onto Poland for her London2London: Via the World expedition.
From there she will cycle across eastern Europe and Asia, row across the Pacific Ocean, cycle across North America, row across the Atlantic Ocean and kayak and cycle back to London.
In her latest blog from Prague Sarah said: “It was with mixed emotions that I pedalled out of Germany last Monday. On the one hand I was happy to be progressing east, but on the other I was sad to leave behind a country I had grown to love – albeit in only a week of cycling.
“Using a combination of cycle routes and roads, I headed south east from Essen towards Finnentrop and down into Bavaria from where I headed east towards Fulda, Coburg, Arzberg and on to my next country, the Czech Republic.
“My route followed the rivers Ruhr and Rhon and others besides, whizzing alongside railway tracks and picking its way through old towns, new towns, industrial areas and old fashioned villages.”
On reaching the Czech Republic Sarah was struck down with food poisoning but after a day carried on her journey and arrived in Prague.
She said: “So here I am in Prague, having recovered and recharged from last week’s food poisoning, raring to go and excited about getting back out with Hercules (her bike) again after some lunch.”
On her Twitter site on Monday she appealed for children at schools in the area to ask her questions via her website www.sarahouten.co.uk about her travels and she will then answer them.
Sarah is raising money for Coppafeel, WaterAid, the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the MND Association.
