Aldi eyes second store in Stamford and a new store in Stretton in Rutland as planning application is submitted for Uffington Road site

Supermarket giant Aldi says it is on the lookout for a location for a Stamford store even though it has submitted a planning application for a site in Uffington Road.

The discount retailer is looking for freehold town-centre or edge-of-centre sites in Stamford, which should be about 1.5 acres and able to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with about 100 parking spaces, ideally on a prominent main road and with good visibility and access.

The news comes as Aldi pressed ahead with plans to open a store in Uffington Road. It has submitted a planning application to South Kesteven District Council for site on land near Mole Country Stores, where there have been several fires in the last few months at a derelict building nearby.
