Evergreen Care Trust named Best Social Enterprise at the Rutland and Stamford Mercury Business Awards 2021
Julie Mair accepted the Best Social Enterprise award on behalf of the Evergreen Care Trust team, which provides care services for older, frail and vulnerable people living in and around Stamford.
Telling the other two finalists, the Stamford mental health and wellbeing charity MindSpace and Stamford Anti-Racism Group, that they were “absolute advocates” for them, she added that she felt “a bit overwhelmed”.
“Thank you to every single volunteer in the district, to everyone who gives up their time. Without these people we would not be able to do what we do. It’s been an absolute pleasure to come to work,” Julie said.
“On behalf of our volunteers and staff who do such amazing work, thank you.”
Speaking later in the evening, Julie said winning the award was “a huge accolade for for our volunteers and staff”.
“Without them and their dedication and commitment we would not be able to make hundreds of small interventions in the community,” she added.
Among its many services, Evergreen provides befriending through volunteers, who phone or visit people who may otherwise feel isolated at home.
The charity is preparing to launch a service for over-65s to support and build mental wellbeing. Called Building Better Mental Well, this will take place at the United Reformed Church Hall in Broad Street, Stamford on Mondays and Fridays from 2pm until 4pm.
During each session there will be the chance to take part in quiet activities in the company of others, such as jigsaws, crafts and puzzles, as well as to hear from visiting speakers, or to have one-to-one sessions with primary care representatives who can assist with social prescribing.
Julie said that people wishing to find out more about it, or wanting to book a place, can phone Evergreen Care Trust on 01780 765900.
Evergreen has seen many of its fundraising events and activities put on hold due to the covid pandemic, but it is due to launch its seasonal fundraiser, the Stamford Christmas Cracker, through which 25 raffle prizes will be given away during December.
