AN APPEAL for help has been issued by the Rotary Club of The Deepings with its ongoing project to restore Scout Island at Low Locks on the River Welland as a beauty spot.
Club members have worked hard in recent years but now need use of lifting equipment to get a small mechanical digger across the narrow river and on to the Deeping St James’ island in order to clear remaining heavy undergrowth.
Landowners Milton Estates gave the club permission in 2007 to clear the site with the aim of improving access while retaining as much natural habitat and wildlife as possible. Litter and weeds have been cleared, wildflowers and trees planted, footpaths constructed and bat and nest boxes, information boards and benches installed.
Anyone who can help should contact the club secretary on 01778 346618 or via the website: www.rotaryribi.org/clubs/homepage.asp?ClubID=413
