Appeal for plastic bags to be recycled in Bourne and Market Deeping
People in Bourne and the Deepings are being reminded that plastic bags can be reused and recycled with South Kesteven District Council.
Shoppers now pay 5p for plastic carrier bags at larger stores and some people are now using bags they have at home to avoid paying.
With your help and the move to charge for bags, we can over time work towards creating an environment where our streets are clear of plastic bags
But the council wants people with any unwanted bags to put them in its silver bins or clear bags.
Coun Nick Craft, portfolio holder for healthy environment, said: “We have a large number of supermarkets in our towns so it’s important householders continue to recycle plastic bags as much as they can.
“Nationally, plastic bags contribute up to two per cent of litter in some areas but with your help and the move to charging for bags, we can over time work towards creating an environment where our streets are clear of plastic bags.”
