Stamford will host one of the country’s biggest apple-based events once again this autumn.

The Stamford Community Orchard Group has set October 3 as the date for this year’s Apple Day. The event will take place at Stamford Arts Centre and will feature the usual panel of experts who will be able to identify apples and give advice on growing the fruit.

The group also believes it is one step closer to finding the elusive Stamford Pippin variety. Spokesman Maria Jameel said: “The apple has been sent off for further investigation and local experts feel that this could be our biggest find in decades.”

The East of England Apples and Orchards Project will also be there with many different varieties of English apple.

There will be a tombola and stalls selling apple-related gifts and produce. There will also be fun and games such as pin the maggot on the apple and apple bobbing, for children big and small.
