A GARDEN designed by a man from Ashwell has won a gold medal.

John Shone, of Rutland Willows in Ashwell, showcased his garden in the royal marquee at Sandringham Flower Show on Wednesday.

The garden, called Ripples Echo to the Shore, was designed to raise awareness of Rett syndrome, a neurological disorder, which John’s granddaughter Millie suffers from.

John’s son Johnny helped design the garden, which was visited by Prince Charles during the show.

John said: “We are thrilled to have won the top award at the Sandringham Flower Show. I am particularly proud to have been able to showcase our garden in the royal marquee while also raising the profile of Rett UK.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the garden for their support and hard work.”

Owen Morgan, 28, of Larchfield, Oakham, has also said he was delighted to win a silver medal for his urban-themed garden at Tatton Flower Show last week.
