An athletics club for young people will be forced to close next week unless new coaches can be found.
Barbara Crellin and Peter Nelmes are stepping down as coaches at Rutland Athletics Club after serving for 28 years and 12 years respectively.
They feel the time has come to hand over to someone younger with new ideas to take the club forwards.
Barbara said: “Neither of us is getting any younger and we have talked about stepping down for a while but the time has finally come for someone else to take over.
“I would hate to see the club fold after all these years but if we can’t find someone else to take over, next week will be the last session.”
The club currently meets on Tuesday evenings at Oakham Rugby Club and has around 15 regular members.
It is open to children and teenagers aged eight to 18 and covers a full range of track and field events.
Barbara said: “We give them an enjoyable, fun-filled and wide range of experiences.
“We don’t encourage the children to specialise in a particular sport but if they do excel we can signpost them to other clubs to continue their training.”
The ideal candidate to take over will already have coaching qualifications but training can be organised for anyone who is keen to take on the challenge but doesn’t have any experience as weekend coaching courses are available locally.
Barbara said: “We are happy to help hand over to someone new.
“I would hate to see the club fold after all this time so I really hope someone will come forward to ensure that athletic opportunities can continue in Rutland.”
