Audi driver dies after crash near Cottesmore

A man in his 60s has died after suffering serious injuries in a crash near Cottesmore on Monday.

The man, who has not been named, was driving a white Audi A4 which was involved in a collision with a lorry at a junction on the road between Cottesmore and Greetham at 6.45am.

All three emergency services attended the scene as well as first responder Dr Leon Roberts, of the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme.

Firefighters cut the man free from his car which had ended up in a ditch and Dr Roberts treated him before he was flown to hospital where he later died. The driver of the white ERF lorry was not injured.

Investigating officer, detective constable Nick Bryan, said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or either of the vehicles being driven prior to the incident to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call DC 87 Nick Bryan on 101, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer’s identification number 87. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.

The road was closed until about 1pm.
