Arts Around Town events are a big success in Bourne
Arts Around Town events came to the area to entertain children during lockdown.
The pilot project was hosted by South Kesteven District Council with the aim of employing artists and performers as covid restrictions are lifted.
Through these events SKDC has employed 50 artists and five creative producers to provide 50 outdoor or online arts experiences to engage with residents and keep the arts alive.
Events have taken place in Colsterworth, Billingborough, Grantham, Bourne and the Deepings and are happening in Stamford today (Thursday) and Corby Glen tomorrow (Friday).
Arts projects officer Jo Dobbs said of the events in Bourne on Sunday that there was a “good number of prebooked audience members” watching Chantry Dance’s new outdoor work ‘The Imprisoned Moon’ on the Wellhead Park twice in the day, with a similar number enjoying Smoking Apple’s Arbor the Tree show.
There was also mini beast hunting with Lincolnshire Outdoor Learning’s Nature Lab and an arty project with Lincolnshire One Venues Connecting Communities officers Sarah and Martyn who ran a ‘Wish You Were Here’ Postcard Project where families could decorate and write a message to those who they hadn’t been able to see or visit during
Residents of Elsea Park were treated to performances by Judith Hope and her Cloud Travellers and Rhubarb Theatre’s Bombadiers show with music accompaniments from Corin Murphy. They also had the chance to have a go at wet felting with artist Nicki Jarvis.
Meanwhile in the car park at Bourne Exchange families saw balloon modelling fun with Craig Cash, jokes aplenty from The Shenanigans and music from the talented George Fowler.
