Australian cricketer confirmed for T20 Sport Bash
An Australian cricketer and a former All Blacks rugby star will play in a T20 charity cricket match taking place in Ketton over the May half term.
Australian Mark Cosgrove, who currently plays for Leicestershire, and Craig Newby, a former All Blacks loose forward, have been named in the Dean Headley XI for the Sport Bash at Ketton on June 1.
The event takes place at the Ketton Sports and Community Centre and in addition to the T20 match, a host of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy will be on offer.
Organiser and former England cricketer Dean Headley this week named the remaining members of his squad, which includes Cosgrove and Newby along with former England cricketers Adam Hollyoak, Phil DeFreitas and Chris Read.
They join Charlotte Edwards, a former captain of the England women’s team; and former England men’s cricketers Geraint Jones, Chris Lewis, John Emburey, Usman Afzaal and Andy Caddick in taking on a Lincs and Rutland XI.
Players for the local team include Brian Makwana of Market Overton Cricket Club; David Clarke, Peterborough Town CC; Tom Bentley, Uffington CC; Matt Bird, Ketton Sports CC; and Josh Bentley of Bourne CC.
They will be joined by Nick Green, the current Stamford School 1st team captain; Michael Jones of Burghley Park CC; Henry Stephenson of Empingham CC; Richard Field, Stamford Town CC; Mark Owen, Oakham Town CC; and Jamie Dunford, Uppingham CC.
Tickets cost £15 but an online special is currently on offer with tickets priced at just £5.
Proceeds will go to the Matt Hampson Foundation, which supports The Seb Goold Trust and the George Robinson Trust.
Gates open at noon with the T20 match starting at 4.30pm.
