Wilds Lodge School in Empingham, Rutland, wins Boarding School of the Year prize at Tes Independent School Awards hosted by comedian Ivo Graham
Wilds Lodge School in Rutland won the Boarding School of the Year award at the Tes Independent School Awards.
Based in Empingham, the school is a therapeutic school which provides boarding for boys aged between six and 18 with social, emotional or mental health difficulties.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in London on Friday (February 7), lead judge Gwen Byrom said: “This is a small school making a large difference to the families it is working with. What staff do to support these children is not celebrated enough.”
Staff from Wilds Lodge School were presented with their award by comedian Ivo Graham at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.
Simon Jugovic, senior team leader at Wilds Lodge School said: “We’re a small school compared to some of the others we were up against for this award, so to win it is so special. This is massive – for all the boys and the staff. It really shows what you can achieve: I’m overwhelmed.”
The Tes Independent School Awards celebrate the outstanding aspects of the UK’s independent school sector and are judged by some of the country’s leading education experts. From individuals to teams, these awards applaud excellence and reward innovation.
This year’s Tes Independent School Awards received 464 entries, almost double the amount of entries received for the 2019 awards.
Tes, formerly known as the Times Educational Supplement, runs these awards, alongside the Tes School Awards and the Tes FE Awards.
Ann Mroz, editor of Tes magazine and chief judge of the awards said: “Congratulations to Wilds Lodge School for this award: it recognises what a tremendous place this school is.”
