THE grounds of Barnack Cricket Club were given a makeover before the season kicks off by members of all ages.
As part of the NatWest CricketForce initiative, the cricketers grouped together on Saturday to carry out the work which included tidying the pavilion and shed, washing all the spectator chairs and putting up nets to protect nearby houses.
NatWest CricketForce is an England and Wales Cricket Board volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating cricket facilities. It encourages cricket supporters to support their local cricket club by volunteering to undertake renovation work in clubhouses and grounds.
Club captain Steve Best said: “Our first game is this weekend so it was just about getting it all ready for the new season. We got the pavilion ready, tidied the shed and got the chairs wiped down.
“Our biggest job was getting the net up to try and stop the ball going into the houses which are next to the ground.
“It’s a lovely place to play cricket here.”
The new pavilion opened last year.
