Raising money for good causes is 70-year-old Val Dawson’s favourite hobby.

For the past 15 years she has held a coffee morning every Tuesday for residents of The Acres, in Barnack.

Earlier this month they raised £176 for the Leukaemia Foundation. And a lunch she hosted the next day raised £460 for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospiece Appeal.

Both events were held at the The Acre’s community hall.

Mrs Dawson, a volunteer helper at The Acres, has raised about £28,000 to date and said she did it because she “loved being with the people” at the sheltered housing complex in Little Northfields.
