A top technology pupil has flown an aircraft he built and showed off to Prince Philip on his recent visit to Bourne.
Bourne Grammar School pupil Sam Lane, 14, celebrated the successful test flight of a tri-copter that he designed and built at the school’s new systems and control and computing complex, the Turing Centre.
The craft’s first flight was a lap of the school field before making a safe landing.
Sam said: “I was delighted with the maiden flight – I just need to develop my piloting skills now.”
Sam, from Bourne, said he would like to add some additional sensors and a camera next, to enable the tri-copter to perform aerial photography and have integrated collision detection.
