A LUNCH club celebrated its 25th birthday with a party.
The Bourne Methodist Church lunch club was set up by a small group of volunteers in 1987, and yesterday celebrated 25 years since its formation.
Members enjoyed a special meal and a cake, while the church hall was decorated with balloons and photos of past meetings.
Dorothy Riley has been involved in the club since it first began.
She said: “We just started out with a couple of tables, some soup and a sandwich. We took about £2 a week.
“It has really grown since then. We must be doing something right or people wouldn’t keep coming.”
The club gives any money it makes back to the church, but Dorothy says the weekly meetings are not about making a profit.
She added: “It was meant to be somewhere people could come and meet up with others and have a chat. It seems that still happens. I hope we can keep going on.”
