BREAKING NEWS: Organisers reveal full route the Olympic Torch will take through the area

ORGANISERS of the Olympic Torch relay, which will pass through the area on July 3 and 4 have revealed this morning (Monday) the full route the torch will take.

The torch will arrive in Langham in Rutland at 2.18pm on Tuesday, July 3, and will pass through Melton Road from the Langham village sign, down Melton Road and to Langham Engineering in Oakham Road.

It will then go in convoy from Langham to Oakham, arriving at the Barleythorpe Road from Huntsman Drive in Oakham at 2.29pm.

It will pass through Barleythorpe Road, Melton Road, the High Street and then turn left into Stamford Road and continue to the Edmonton Way junction.

The torch will travel in convoy to Whitwell Harbour at Rutland Water, arriving at 2.54pm.

It will travel across the reservoir to the Normanton shore at 3.22pm, before travelling in convoy to Uppingham.

It will arrive in Uppingham at 4.15pm. In Uppingham, the torch will travel from Ayston Road from Firs Avenue junction, along Ayston Road to London Road.

From there, it will go left onto High Street East and up to the Glaston Road junction.

From there, the torch will travel in convoy from Uppingham to Stamford, arriving at 4.45pm.

In Stamford, it will travel along Tinwell Road into West Street, onto Scotgate, through Red Lion Square to St John’s Street and into the High Street. The torch will pass along the High Street into St Paul’s Street. It will pass along St Paul’s Street, into Brazenose Lane, into St Leonard’s Street. It will turn left into Wharf Road and continue onto High Street St Martin’s. It will then go in convoy from the Barnack Road junction to Burghley House, arriving at 5.15pm.

From there, it will go in convoy to Nene Valley Railway’s Wansford Station. It will travel to Orton Mere Station and begin its route through Peterborough at 6.35pm.

On Wednesday, July 4, the torch will start its day in Peterborough at 7.10am. It will arrive in convoy from Peterborough in Market Deeping at 8.08am. It will travel from the Market Deeping village sign, along Lincoln Road, into Church Street and onto Towngate West. From there, the torch will travel in convoy from Market Deeping to Thurlby, arriving at 8.27am at the village sign in Peterborough Road.

In Thurlby, the torch will travel along the High Street, turn right onto The Green and right again into Northorpe Lane and into Woodside East.

From there it will travel in convoy to Bourne, arriving at 8.53am in South Road. It will travel along South Road, into South Street and turn right into Abbey Road. From Abbey Road, it will continue onto Spalding Road and then into Meadow Drive.

It will then travel in convoy from Bourne to Spalding, arriving in Spalding at 9.34am.

Nationally an average of 115 torchbearers a day will carry the Olympic flame on its 8,000 mile around the UK.
