A musical duo from Langtoft put on a show to entertain crowds and pick up a regional award for their comedy song about Lincolnshire.

Brothers Wall and Ted Smart, aka The Descendants of Turkey Smart, have won the Performance Prize in the Write a Song for Lincolnshire competition.

The pair entered the competition, which was held at Spilsby Theatre, with their tune Lincolnshire Peeps, a song that celebrates the weird and wonderful county of Lincolnshire, with references to villages including Swinethorpe and Hogsthorpe.

The Performance Prize is given to the entry that gets the most out of their song and the brothers were delighted with their award.

They describe their style as Fen folk rap rock, with an abundance of comical lyrics, mainly about Lincolnshire.

Wall, 35, from East End, Langtoft, who sings and plays the ukulele, said: “It’s quite amazing to have won. It was great to see the crowd really laughing at our song.

“We have a number of humerous and silly tunes that are a bit tongue in cheek, and we love dressing up and putting on a show. It’s great to celebrate our county. It was nice to pick up the trophy at the end of the night.”

The competition is run by Heritage Lincolnshire and is now in its 19th year.

The pair impressed the four judges on the night, including Heritage Lincolnshire spokesman Tom Lane.

He said: “It was the first time that I’ve come across the pair and I have to say they were quite unusual but really entertaining.

“The audience seemed to love them, I really enjoyed it and so did the judges.

“The competition was very successful in terms of the number and quality of the entries. We are very lucky to have such a wealth of song writing talent in this county.”

The performances were recorded by BBC Radio Lincolnshire and will be broadcast around Christmas. The brothers are commonly known as Will and Ted Fisk. To find out more about the band, visit
