A project to transform the former Butterfly Farm at Rutland Water into a Bugtopia Zoo is well underway, with the finishing touches being made in preparation for its planned opening in May.

Along with birds, bugs, bats and bees, the zoo has two new animals that are waiting to move into their new home.

Owners Natalia Matts, 28 and Jozef Mordawska, 31 are hoping to re-home two 6ft crocodiles from the Dangerous Wild Animal Rescue Facility in Essex, with a crocodile enclosure currently being built at the new site for the two crocodiles that are in desperate need of rehoming.

Jozef said: “Everything is going well, it’s all getting very exciting. There’s lots more that needs be done, but we are hard at work trying to finish it on time.

“Our main priority is making it the best it can be for the animals, we want them to have the highest care possible.”

The former Butterfly Farm shut six years ago and has been empty since, but in a few weeks time the 11,000 sq ft space will comprise of a jungle area, educational area, twilight zone and a bug city.

Help is still needed to make the project a success, and both Natalia and Jozef are calling on any volunteers or tradesmen who can help.

If you can offer some help at the new zoo please contact the pair on 07938 232723 or you can e-mail bugtopiainfo@gmail.com for more information.
