ABOUT 2,000 homes and businesses will have access to faster broadband by spring next year.
North Luffenham will be among 300 villages to benefit from BT’s rollout programme for copper broadband service.
The BT investment makes available broadband speeds of up to 20MBPS - more than double the maximum speeds available at the moment.
Paul Bimson, BT’s East Midlands regional partnership director, said: “This is another important step forward for Rutland. Faster broadband can help businesses become more competitive and greatly improve the online services available to families and homeworkers.
“As the roll-out of faster broadband gathers pace, internet users will be able to choose the service that suits their needs.”
Meanwhile, IT worker Bret Whitcombe, of Spring Bank Drive, Bourne, has launched a petition for fibre optic broadband to be installed in the town to increase speeds.
