Firefighters will strike for 24 hours as their continuing fight over changes to pensions continues.

Fire Brigades Union members will walk out at 7am on Wednesday. This will be the 49th strike in the ongoing pensions dispute.

The union opposes the Government’s decision to increase the amount of money firefighters pay towards their own pensions. It is also fighting a requirement for firefighters to work until they are 60 or face a pension reduction of more than 20 per cent; and for firefighters to work for 40 years in the service to receive a full pension.

Fire and rescue services in the area will provide reduced response cover during the strike, which will end at 7am on Thursday.
