A pub will soon be turned into a convenience store.
Midlands Co-operative plans to open a store in the former Horseshoe Inn in Braunston Road, Oakham.
A spokesman confirmed the shop was due to open in January.
Rutland County Council granted permission for Everards to turn the pub into a shop in June.
The brewery submitted the application because it said the pub was “no longer viable” after a fall in trade in recent years.
The decision was made despite vocal opposition from neighbouring residents.
Many people in the area offered their support for the pub and a petition was launched by Briars Mini Market in Churchill Road, just around the corner from the pub. More than 600 signatures were collected on the petition.
Everards said the development would create about 25 jobs.
The approval includes conditions that the hours of trade must only be between 7am and 11pm.
