A new manager who has been appointed at Stamford Leisure Pool wants all children to know how to be water safe.

Chris Phillips, has just taken over as general manager at the pool and is on a mission to help ensure that young children in the community know how to be safe around water.

Chris, aged 40, has two children of his own so understands how important it is for children to learn how to swim as early as possible.

“From a very early age my two boys were being taken to our local swimming pool to help ensure that they were gaining one of the most important life skills that I think a parent can teach a child,” said Chris.

“We teach our children how to safely cross a road and yet there are still a huge number of children out there who don’t know how to swim or act sensibly around water.”

Part of Chris’ plans for Stamford Leisure Pool include a real focus on developing the current swim school and working more closely with the local community and schools to ensure that no child leaves primary education without the ability to swim 25m.

Chris is also keen to make fundraising part of everyday life at the leisure pool and will be holding a number of sponsored events for local people to participate in over the coming months.
