A cycling retailer has been named among the top 20 independent stores of its type in the country.
Rutland Cycling, based in Wing Road, Manton, was among the firms recognised in cycling magazine BikeBiz’s annual list.
The top 20 was compiled after an extensive survey of distributors, brands and cycling journalists along with readers of bikebiz.com.
BikeBiz editor Jonathon Harker said: “It was no mean feat to whittle the list down to only 20 stores, but it was a joy to read all the stories sent in.
“It really shows the energy independent bike shops round the country are putting into engaging local cyclists above and beyond simply turning a profit.”
To make the most of the extra publicity Rutland Cycling is hosting a number of rides and events over the next few months to try and inspire women to take up the sport.
Monthly Saturday road routes aimed at the beginner cyclist will begin at 9.30am on June 1 from the Rutland Cycling shop in Whitwell.
The sessions are free to attend if you have your own bike and there will be a discounted rate of £5 if you need to hire a bike.
And a weekly mums and tots ride will be held every Friday morning at 10am at Rutland Water or Fineshide Woods.
Dads and other carers are welcome too and rides are at a leisurely pace, around five miles and suitable for all abilities.
