THERE has been good news and bad news for traders in the Stamford area this week.
Focus in Markham Retail Park, Ryhall Road, Stamford, is due to close today having sold all its stock.
The shop said it would stay open until all of its stock was gone, and by the end of the week all that was left was a few cans of paint and lightbulbs.
Currys in High Street, Stamford, closed down on Tuesday.
The shops were two of the leading chain stores in the town, one selling electrical products and the other selling DIY products.
Focus called in administrators earlier this year and Currys has reduced the number of retail outlets.
It is not yet known what will happen to the former Currys shop.
But it is not all bad news for the town.
Sainsbury’s has confirmed that its plans for a supermarket in the former Focus store are progressing well and it hopes to be able to reveal its intentions within the next couple of weeks.
Similarly, surveyors Barker Storey Matthews based in Peterborough has confirmed that the former Ideal Shopfitters site on the A1 has been sold to a Stamford based firm which is yet to confirm what its plans are for the site.
