School days could be disrupted as teachers go on strike in a dispute over pay, pensions, working conditions and jobs.

Members of the National Union of Teachers and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers will take industrial action in the Eastern, Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside regions on Tuesday next week.

A further day of action will be held in the North East, Cumbria, London, South East and South West regions on October 17.

A full list of schools where teachers will strike has not been revealed but some may have to close as a result of the action.

Schools will take the decision to close themselves, with local education authorities relying on headteachers to pass on the news.

Stamford Endowed Schools and Catmose College in Oakham have both confirmed they will stay open on Tuesday.

Lincolnshire County Council has set up a website listing the schools it knows will be closed.
