A by-election will be held to fill a vacant seat on Stamford Town Council.

The council is missing one member after former mayor Clem Walden handed in his resignation. Six candidates will fight for the seat in St John’s Ward on Tuesday, September 24.

They are:

Pamela Bisnauthsing (Real Independent)

Aidan Campbell

Robert Foulkes (Ukip)

Emma Hunter (Lib Dem)

Brenda Sumner (Con)

Alan Swan (Stamford Group of Independents)

Malcolm Sargent Primary School and the Danish Invader will act as polling stations.

Mr Walden was first elected onto the town council in 2007. He served as mayor in 2014/15 and was a popular figure around town, even taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association after being nominated by the Mercury.

Mr Walden said he resigned because he was unhappy with the administration of the town council.

He added: “I would dearly like to thank all those who supported me over the last eight years. I offer my apologies to them for taking this action. I still love this town and will still be doing by damndest to fight for it.”
