Bythams Primary School youngsters run around the school field every day as part of a campaign to encourage fitness and healthy lifestyles.

They are all members of Bythams Fitness Club – and since it started last year the children have run more than 6,700 miles.

They are plotting these miles on a map running through all of the capital cities around the world so not only are they keeping fit, they are also learning lessons in geography.

The children also have to track how many kilometres they have run as a class and also as a school, before the older children convert it to miles – so they are gaining maths skills as well.

Headteacher of the Little Bytham school Richard Clarke said: “The Bythams Fitness Club has been a huge success. All of the children enjoy their daily run and a lot of the older children are now running well over a mile a day.

“Our running journey is displayed in school and also on the school website and the children are really excited about it as they run around the world!”
