The new owners of a Stamford takeaway have been granted a licence to sell alcohol from the premises.

As previously reported in the Mercury, Robert and Jayne Hayre submitted an application to South Kesteven District Council for the Cambridge Road Chippy, at 41 Cambridge Road.

The couple, who live in Stamford but have spent the past six years running a pub in Peterborough, are in the process of buying the unit, previously known as the Britannia Take-Away.

They were seeking permission to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises between 11.30am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 4pm to 9pm on Sundays.

A number of objections were received, but the council’s Alcohol, Entertainment and Late Night Refreshment Licensing Committee agreed to grant the licence after Mr Hayre explained he had been in the licensed trade for 43 years and will only sell alcohol to those buying a full meal.

Those who are intoxicated will not be served.
