Nene Valley Railway at Wansford appeals for milling machine

The Nene Valley Railway at Wansford is appealing for someone to donate a milling machine.

The railway's Bridgeport version - one of their most used machine tools when it comes to steam loco restoration - failed at the weekend.

Mechanical fitter Jamie Allen said: "I turned the handle one way and it was fine, then went to bring it back and there was a clunk, we have stripped it down to try a repair but frankly it's pretty much ruined. It's failure is a huge blow the our engineering department.

"I suppose it's done well, we've had it for 40 years and it wasn't new when we got it. Its worked tirelessly since and the wear and tear on has been immense. "

If you have such a piece of machinery that you could donate, the railway would love to hear from you.
