Celebrating with a drop of gin

A drop or six of gin helped a fundraising night run smoothly.

Barnsdale Hall Hotel hosted the gin tasting evening on Thursday last week as part of its celebrations for its 30th anniversary coverage and as a way to raise money for charity For Rutland.

During the evening, Alex Pennell, from Warner Edwards Distillery was on hand to ensure that all guests were able to learn about the origin of six different gins. He also explained how to best compliment the gins to fully ensure their best flavour.

As well as gins, there was also canapes and meats from Rutland Charcuterie.

Lydia Meredith, from Rutland Radio, hosted the evening with interviews and a gin quiz.

And The Singing Major, Keith Tomlinson, helped to create a fantastic ambiance with his performance throughout the evening.

Proceeds from the event, which totalled £600, will go towards For Rutland, a charity which supports those with long-term health conditionsy.

Caroline Hammond from the charity said: “Alex Pennell was a very entertaining presenter and gave an interesting background of each gin. It was definitely an enjoyable way to raise funds.”
