The staff and pupils at Leighfield Academy are celebrating after being judged as good in an Ofsted inspection, with early years and progress in writing being outstanding.

Inspectors, who visited the school in Uppingham in March, described it as “a happy, harmonious community” where “all aspects of teaching are good overall at each key stage, with some outstanding practice”.

Inspectors stated: “The excellent quality of education in the early years means that reception-year children make outstanding progress.”

The report added: “The academy provides a wide variety of learning experiences in different subjects that pupils enjoy greatly. The activities available in music and sport are particularly extensive.”

Headteacher Debbie Sedgwick said she was proud of both the pupils, who work hard, and the staff who have high aspirations for every pupil.

She said: “I am delighted the inspectors recognised our team approach, where all staff and children take responsibility to ensure great learning and behaviour and look after one another.

“We have aspects of outstanding practice throughout the school and are already sharing our skills to raise progress in maths from good to outstanding to match progress in English. The report recognised all the good things about the school.”
