People have been invited to put themselves forward for a council seat.

Oakham Town Council has three vacancies following last month’s election, because not enough candidates stood to fill all the seats. There are two vacancies in the Oakham North East Ward and one in the Oakham South West Ward

The council wants to co-opt three new members at a meeting on July 8.

A spokesman said: “The town council has a budget of approximately £230,000 in 2015/2016 and is looking for community-minded individuals to join it in what are likely to be a challenging few years.”

The council is looking to take on the ownership and management of Oakham Cemetery from April 2016 and will start work on a Neighbourhood Plan for Oakham.

The closing date for those wishing to apply is June 19. Applicants will be invited for interview with members of the council during the week of June 29.
