Liberal Democrat wins Rutland County Council by-election in Uppingham ward formerly held by Green Party councillor

The Liberal Democrat candidate has been elected to Rutland County Council following a by-election yesterday (Thursday).

Stephen Lambert will now represent Uppingham ward until the next round of normal council elections in 2023.

The election was called following the resignation of Miranda Jones (Green Party) who moved from the area.

Before the result was announced, the leader of the council Oliver Hemsley announced he was resigning from the Conservative Group, but intends to continue as leader as an independent unaligned councillor.

The full result was:

  • Dave Ainslie, Independent – 327 votes
  • Phil Bourqui, Reform UK – 36 votes
  • Giles Clifton, The Conservative Party Candidate – 205 votes
  • Stephen James Lambert, Liberal Democrat – 661 votes ELECTED

Turnout for the Uppingham by-election was 39.42 per cent.
