Cancer patients can get more support in their homes thanks to a new partnership between the British Red Cross and Macmillan Cancer Support.

From February, Red Cross staff and volunteers will work with the team at Macmillan to make a real difference in the lives of sufferers in Bourne, Stamford and Deeping.

An open day for those interested in volunteering is being held at 9.15am on Tuesday, January 22, at British Red Cross, 22 Tollemache Road (south), Grantham, NG31 7UH.

Volunteers from the Red Cross First Call service will offer practical and emotional support to those affected by cancer, providing companionship and helping with tasks such as picking up prescriptions and shopping.

Lynne McLean, British Red Cross senior services manager for Lincolnshire, said:
“Full training will be given and all we ask is that they can give a couple of hours of their time to help those people affected by cancer.”

Potential volunteers can attend the open day or call 0845 054 7171.
