People have been invited to nominate sports clubs, people, volunteers and projects for an award.

Active Rutland’s annual Community Sports Awards have opened for the third year running. The aim of the awards is to celebrate achievements and overall contribution to community sport during the past year.

Active Rutland, which is made up of representatives from Rutland County Council, the county sports partnership, NHS and local clubs, hopes people will get involved by nominating people they know have played a big part in making this year such a success.

There are 14 awards to nominate: Sportswoman of the Year, Sportsman of the Year, Young Sportswoman of the Year, Young Sportsman of the Year, Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Junior Sportsman of the Year, Disabled Sportsperson of the Year, Active 4 Life Award, Volunteer of Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, Community Award, Sports Project of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nominations are now open and will close on October 10. The awards ceremony itself will be held at Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre on November 12.

You can nominate online at or request a form from Active Recreation, Rutland County Museum, Catmose, Oakham, LE15 6HP, or by calling 01572 720932.

The overall sponsor for this year’s awards is Lefarge Tarmac.
