Travel counsellor Emma Savage shares tips on travelling to the Maldives
I’ve been booking customer to the Maldives for many years; it is a dream destination and popular with honeymooners and families looking for the ultimate tropical paradise, writes travel counsellor, Emma Savage. A question I am often asked, is ‘which island would you recommend?’ Well, choosing the perfect island is not as easy as you may first think. The islands are different sizes, from tiny dots to larger more commercial options. Some have lots going on, others are designed for peace and tranquillity. They range in distance from the capital, Male, (where the airport is) from a short speedboat to a sea plane transfer. The islands themselves offer water villas, beach villas, villas with pools, villas with jacuzzi; the choice is endless. So, how do you choose? Well, here are some of my favourites.
LUX South Ari Atoll is hard to beat. This 5* luxury island has thought of everything; from a comprehensive all-inclusive programme, including six restaurants and five bars, to little extras like breakfast served on a floating tray in your private pool. Families are so well looked after here; little ones are encouraged to join in a treasure hunt around the island and the kids club has lots more to keep them entertained. There’s also unlimited ice cream too. I have no hesitation in sending my customers with children to LUX.
The Niyama Private Islands Maldives is also one to check out. It has one of the best kids clubs in the Maldives and is free for children aged 3-12 years. Families love the specialised children’s menu’s even at the fine dining restaurant, so mum and dad can enjoy a wonderful meal, knowing their children will eat well too. They take great care here, to ensure every family member has a great holiday. Great for adults too, it has an underwater night club which attracts international DJ’s, and a pristine house reef, for those who love exploring underwater.
