A fish and chip shop is offering NHS workers free meals and extending their children's meal offer in the light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Owner Chris Pithey said: "It was launched in response to children that get free meals in school.

"We already do the offer for children on a Saturday and Sunday and now that the schools will be closed, we decided to extend it.

"I've also got a couple of friends who work in the NHS and have also seen some Facebook posts about the good work they are doing at the moment.

"We're just trying to help out and I feel it's something we should do because we don't really know how coronavirus is going to affect us."

Both offers are limited to one meal per person and the NHS free meal offer applies to the following options only:

  • Small (5-6oz) piece of cod and regular chips
  • Plain or battered sausage and regular chips
  • 1/4lb burger / 1/4lb cheese burger and regular chips.
